You may remember what Columbia Heights used to look like. This is the new Columbia Heights:

Still, some of the narrowest streets and alleys are near Dupont Circle and downtown:

Yes, I remember when Columbia Heights was unsafe and they had the riot in the early 90s. I was still living in the DC area when it started improving, but wow what a transformation! I lived in Northern Virginia until early 2012 but didn't venture to the Penn Quarter much by that point as I was no longer working there. But I do remember marveling at all of the changes the few times I went there. Looks even better now. Dupont was desirable the whole time I lived there and still looks great. Hoping to move back to the DC area in the near future.

Grand Rapids has over 31 apartment buildings being built. Also a skyscraper is about to break ground.
http://woodtv.com/2016/11/04/propose...inal-approval/

I posted two google views of the same area. You will notice that there are two parking lots (Area 4 and Area 5). Not for long, as they are about to construct building on them.

In addition, twin buildings are planned on the corner of Ottawa and Pearl.

Wow-very different for sure. My parents lived in Columbia Heights/Mt. Pleasant from like 1976-1983.

The most urban view of Fort Wayne, Indiana I could find.

Downtown Goshen, Indiana, my hometown. It's had a major resurgence and is once again a big, bustling downtown area for a city of just 30,000.
