Actually, you're right. I have ten more months on my lease and then I head west: Denver, Seattle, Portland, LA or SD.

And the Confederates and the Republic of Texas would feel emboldened to re-form that country in the middle of the confusion. No more America!

Do you know how many Indian and Asian engineers and doctors come from Asia and work in this state. If you have skills in areas that are in high demand like those listed, your pool of opportunities lies California. And while there are poor people just like anywhere, there are also a lot of rich people who will buy your services if you're a business owner trying to set up shop and want to cater to a certain type of people or just the West Coast in general.

Stuff that come out of the west coast influence the rest of the nation and the world that's why there's a lot of start ups here. A lot of Californians were not born and raised in California. The state is a melting pot of talent usually of people leaving their old states to seek opportunities here or for a better lifestyle. A lot more people are moving here than moving out because just driving down the freeways they're building luxury apartments to accommodate the influx and you can bet real estate will go up due to demand. No matter how you look at it, California will always be in demand because people are willing to pay. You can say stuff like the state is bankrupt, politics suck, and overrun by illegal immigrants but its economy is 8th in the world so clearly it's doing something right what with all the professionals moving and living here to contribute to it.
But yet it is such a basket case in the eyes of many conservatives lol!

It is a basket case from multiple views. Despite its wealth, California has the largest poverty rate in the nation, which isn't helped by its insane levels of inequality.

But you'll be living in Indianapolis. To some people, California is still worth it, especially over a relatively small midwestern city. No offense.

There are alot of CA plates in New Orleans though.

While that is true for some people, the opposite is true for some people in regards to the opposite (you'll be living in California and Indiana is still worth it). It isn't something that can really be measured or compared.

There has been a huge surge in California transplants here to Indianapolis recently. California plated cars are spotted everyday now and my neighbor is a California transplant. He saves over $30,000 a year just in rent living here and his income is much higher as well. He told me he's much happier here too
The reason Indianapolis is much cheaper is that few people want to live there. I could move from Virginia to Detroit and save $10,000 in housing as well. But there's a reason why housing is cheaper: desirability.
