There's clearly a difference between what locals hear and the popular image among people elsewhere. Terms like "East Coast formality" are obviously referring to the big-city Northeast.

I don't have to imply. if I were to quantify the amount, I'd come right out and say it. I'm telling from my experiences, a lot of people identify as southern. My fiancée family identifies as southern, rappers from Miami identify as southern, I dated a girl who was from Hollywood Florida who identified as southern.

There was a song that came out a few years called "holla at me," the rapper, Pitbull, a Cuban American from Miami, said in his verse, "You know what we're about, well, welcome to the south."

Rick Ross identifies as southern
Trick daddy identifies as southern

Before we go any further, why are we arguing semantics? East Coast, Eastern Seaboard is all the same thing: Maine to Florida.

It isn't?

I think it seems people far from the East Coast tend to consider only certain locations or big cities in the Northeast to be "east coast" while people from the East Coast consider it Maine to Florida-because it is.

"I-95" This is the major highway of the East Coast and people are driving up and down it constantly.
