I saw Oregon listed on this forum. Portland and the state is beautiful, but I cannot give Oregon high marks for someone gay, especially a gay male that is from elsewhere in the country. First of all it is no longer inexpensive and in a constant state of building, yet has little economy and very high unemployment. As far as gay people it is a mecca for gay woman, not guys and the gay community is not cohesive here. In other words it is not your gay population center where it is readily available to find others that are gay. There is a ballot initiative every other election to limit or give gays some benefits in this state. THere is a constant battle over this by fundamentalist to give gays nothing. Believe me it is very stressful working and living in an area where ballot initiatives concerning gays are on just about every election. The liberal areas of the state are basically in a few areas of Portland and Eugene, the rest is as conservative as alabama. Sort of like living in Berlin before the wall came down, somewhat confining politically. Do your research on places, it actually can be better to not live in these so called gay friendly places, they are expensive and somewhat on the snobbish side in many respects.
