Hottest: New York City. In addition to being the southernmost tip of the State, there's a strong urban heat Island effect due to the extreme urbanization of NYC that keeps it warmer than the surrounding areas.
Coldest: Lake Placid, NY. All the way up in the Adirondacks, and near the Canadian border. They even hosted the winter Olympic s a few times.
Copper Harbor, MI: annual high 49.1 low 33.4 average 41.25
Temperance, MI: annual high 59.3 low 37.8 average 48.55
I'm surprised there isn't a larger spread considering Copper Harbor is roughly 370 miles north.
I believe it is 447 miles in air distance, and 627 miles in driving distance. Were you using a different way to measure?
Temperance is 397 miles in air distance from Washington DC, and 482 miles from DC in driving distance.
Temperance is 627 driving miles from Cartesville, GA which is only 41 miles north of Atlanta.
Kind of funny in that you can be in the East Coast, in the South, in Montreal, or remain in Michigan depending on the route you take driving the same distance.
Well California has already been done and will be done multiple times so I'll do Arizona.
Hottest: Lake Havasue city: 128F
Coldest: Hawley lake -40F
....although it's not a city or even a town for that matter, just has a bunch of cabins around it. I'd say the coldest city in Arizona is probably Flagstaff where the average winter highs range from 42-44 and where the average lows range from 16-19.

I haven't been up to Fraser in several years but the last time I was there I saw street signs in one small neighborhood;

Peak Circle
Prestone Ave.
Last weeks cold temperatures in western Colorado that were noted in the Denver Post was -37 in Craig and -31 in Gunnison.
Grand Junction's hot time of the year is 3rd week of June. The hottest I've experienced was 107 degrees.
Bradford's the one I hear or see mentioned most often. The Barrens area intrigued me because the Pine Barrens on Long Island and in Southern New Jersey are the cool spot in their area.
