I'm surprised the only mention of Oklahoma in this thread put it in a "clean" state category. I must disagree... This state is horribly trashy, and not just along the roadways...

Now where I'm from out West, in Colorado... We are very clean there. Colorado's roadways are kept near spotless, and so are those in our friends Wyoming and Utah!

As far as the dirtiest I've been to goes... I'm not sure. I think I might have to say here in Oklahoma. Or North Texas. Most of Texas is nice, but north of Dallas, for some reason, just comes off as dirty to me.

We have a slogan here in Utah, "Don't waste Utah." It is a very clean place. I remember a lady from Canada coming up to me in downtown Salt Lake and remarking how clean it was here.

Colorado seems pretty clean. Wyoming. Idaho seems pretty clean, too.

Worst that I've seen? New Jersey seems pretty junky in places. Pennsylvania. New York, New York. California. Parts of Montana. Don't know if I'd consider Las Vegas dirty or just blah.

North Carolina is probably one of the dirtiest states I've ever been to. There is trash EVERYWHERE. Even in the remotest parts of the country, there were huge amounts of trash. There were dead animals and tire shreads all over the highway and inner roads.

Texas is the cleanest state I have ever been in.
Alabama and Mississippi are the dirtiest.

There are parts of LA and OC that look like third World Countries but overall CA is pretty clean.

Nothing in the US compares to Canada for cleanliness.

Cleanest:
Wisconsin,
Michigan,
and Northern Maine: Southern Maine along the real touristy areas can be a dump at times.

Dirtiest:
Southern CA,
Louisiana: Around New Orleans I had to take a good look at a sign by the road to make sure it didn't say there was a fine for NOT littering. Other parts were rather clean though I thought.

California easily.

I've never seen the tenderloin replicated anywhere in the usa. East Vancouver near China town comes close, but not really.

I can't say for the whole state, but I found Benton, Arkansas to be very run down and littered a lot of trash in peoples yards and along roadsides. I'm glad I moved away from there.
