I relocated to Washington, DC. from Miami 3 years ago. Initially may job required travel in the DC metro. I've now been a teleworker for 2 years now. I like DC and some aspects, but the cost-of-living is starting to be a more pressing issue. If I must pay a high rent as a teleworker, it seems more sensible to work from home near a beach and ocean view.
When living in Miami there were some aspects that I didn't like, but mainly the biggest factor in leaving was the salaries offered in my field in other cities.
It's amazing the pay disparity between S. Florida and other major cities. I'd be taking my current DC wage and moving back to Miami. With the increase in pay I can lafford a much better lifestyle than my time there previously making $90K.
They are two completely different cities and each offers something the other does not. The cities seen as generally most desirable to live in are the ones that cost more to live in, and that's just the way it works.
A DC Salary and the opportunity to live in Miami? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. Several of my coworkers at my job in DC telework from their homes in Florida (some in South Florida, others in Tampa Bay or Orlando), so it's not unheard of.

I'm not pressed to make a decision. I'll consider S. Florida if it makes sense. The biggest perk to FL is no state tax. I'm now weighing FL against other metro areas like Charlotte or Atlanta.
