I have a SSN card that doesn't contain Valid only with DHS Authorization', does that make my number more akin to an American citizen or what's the story? Is the SSN more or less meaningless or does this give me a leg up over other foreginers(I don't consider myself really foreign even though I am, since my first memories are in the Bay Area)? Thanks. Just really curious. Any replies would be great.

Do I have to go through the whole process of applying for a Visa or does this make me eligible to work in the USA? I don't know if I even have intentions to go back, I'd probably just move back to California but wouldn't be making enough to ever be able to but just knowing I could would be a great thing for me because in some ways I feel a bit American(whatever that entails)

You still have to get a visa. Typically one gets a SS card if they have a job in the US. There are a few other ways to get one, but a SSN in no way replaces a visa. The federal government records your income, taxes, and benefits via your SSN. Your SSN always stays the same even if your visa changes or you become a citizen. A SSN can somewhat give you a leg up when applying for a new visa as your SSN shows the federal government your history in the US. If your history is positive then it's a bonus.
