I live in New York and the Mexican population here is mostly from Puebla, Mexico City, and Oaxaca, probably in that order. Some other Southern Mexican states are also represented.
I'm curious what the patterns for other parts of the US are. This is relevant partly because it determines what kinds of Mexican food you can get in a given area. In NYC there are lots of Puebla options but not much in the way of Baja cuisine, for instance.
Side note, I found it very difficult to word the title in a way that made sense.
In Southern CA, I knew people from: Estado de Mexico, Ciudad de Mexico, Veracruz, a ton from Puebla, Guanajuato, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Sinaloa, Hidalgo, Yucatan (many of the other Mexicans resented people from here), Queretaro, and Zacatecas.
In Denver, most I meet are from Sonora or Chihuahua. I know one guy from San Luis Potosi, another from Coahuila, and one from Sinaloa.
My own family comes from Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, Sonora, and Chihuahua (both of my parents have Mexican ancestors), and settled in New Mexico and California in the first quarter of the 20th century.

Would you say Michoacan and Jalisco are the top two for LA?
And is San Antonio's representation similar to Houston's?

I wonder why the resentment for Yucatan. Especially considering it's one of the tamest parts of Mexico.
That's less than I thought but still a decent amount
I think it's the lowest of all Texas major cities.
