I am married for a year and am planning for a kid. I work in manhattan and my husband in NJ. Both are into software. Our earnings are just enuf to pay rent, taxes and satisfy basic needs. Can anyone suggest any other state (Ohio, Boston, Texas, etc ) which can offer good job opportunities, low tax rates, good schooling and good lifestyle. We are tired of running from morn to nite just in building our careers, no fun, no vacations due to no savings

Well, if you are looking into Ohio you might want to check out the Youngstown area. I know it has a bad rap, but the surrounding area is very safe and the cost of living is as low as it gets.

You wouldn't think Youngstown has many software jobs, but the Youngstown Business Incubator is growing by leaps and bounds. They are focused on mainly business to business software. One of their most successful companies is Audience Response Systems | Turning Technologies. Recently two more software companies have moved in and they are expecting 9 more by the end of the year.

Here is their website: Youngstown Business Incubator

Good luck on finding a new home!

Louisiana's property taxes are crazy low. If I owned a house like I do now in Texas or California I would be paying out of the ass for property taxes.

You can't even compare the cost of living between Texas and California. Two completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

Inexpensive + opportunities in software = Austin, TX.

May I suggest Oklahoma, Arkansas (NW area only,) Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, or Texas (although property taxes will be one expensive chunk of dough in TX.)
