Anyone live in either and can give advice? Im thinking of relocating and can't decide. I've been to Charlotte and like the weather (I'm from Michigan) and fact that it is close to home but my only concern is making friends. It seems like there's lakes and hiking and nice resturaunts to keep entertrained. I have 2 friends in the henderson area in Nevada and that's a main reason I've considered moving here (but I've also heard like charlotte it's hard to make friends and date here, but knowimg a few people might help). Looks similar to Charlotte in that it has nice weather, the strip for restaurants and activities, but also hiking and kayaking very close. Both areas I will be able to find in a position with my job so that's not a concern. Nevada is just so far from home but I'm not sure which one would be better. Any insight would be great. I'm a female in my late 20s and single If that matters

Charlotte seems the better option in my opinion and have never heard where Charlotte is a difficult place to meet new friends or date, in fact I would bet it's more the opposite. I also think you're more liable to meet "husband material" in Charlotte given it's much larger professional community whereas Henderson is more geared toward the hospitality industry which is very transient by nature and not typically well compensated in terms of salary. While Henderson could be fun I don't think in terms of life-planning it's the wiser choice.

Take it with a grain of salt when people tell you it's difficult to make friends or date in a major American city. Think about how much of that depends on the INDIVIDUAL rather than the city. I'd imagine Charlotte has a larger young professional scene than Henderson/Las Vegas in general.

Also don't move somewhere for friends, move for yourself and your career.

Some questions to consider...

-Have you ever been to Las Vegas during the summer months for an extended period (aka more than a week)?

-Have you spent time in the south during the summer? Can you deal with humidity?

-Will the jobs pay the exact same salary in both locations? If so, where will your money go further?

-Are you trying to stay in the same job your entire life? If not, which offers more opportunity for professional growth?

-How often do you plan on visiting home? On average how much would it cost you to fly home from Vegas to Michigan multiple times a year and is that in your price range?

-How close are you with these two friends? Would you be happy in Vegas if they were not there?

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies and def some good insight to consider! I do feel like long term Charlotte would def be a place I could see myself staying opposed to Vegas. However, I can make alot more money in Vegas (10-13 more per hour than in Michigan and about 5-8 more per hour in Vegas compared to Charlotte) either place I'm def making more with both similar COL to the city I currently in so both would be better options. I sometimes consider moving for a short time to Vegas just to make some good money for a few years but I have alot to consider. Never been to either place in the summer months.
