Hi there, my husband is currently a software engineer, but he holds a masters degree in electrical engineering and has several years of experience as a systems engineer. He currently works for a defense contractor and is happy in this line of work, but would also be happy to work for a tech company. We are looking to relocate due to the harsh winters in our region. We have several requirements when it comes to choosing a location.

A) Employment, of course.

B) Mild climate. Snow is okay, just maybe no more than 2 feet per year (we get way more here.)

C) No roaches. I am not willing to live in a place with enormous insects.

D) Reasonable housing costs. Maybe around $200k - $250k, taxes under $5k would be reasonable for us.

Can Anyone point me in the direction of a company/location that would suit our needs? We have been searching for the right place for years, and I am just getting so worn down and tired of looking. We're coming out of another winter and I feel like I can't even remember what the sun looks like!

Thank you!

Maybe Raleigh, or Atlanta (suburbs). Could also try Phoenix, although that isn't exactly what I would call a mild climate in summer.

Except for the enormous insects, Huntsville Alabama (Redstone Arsenal) fits your requirements. RSA is home to NASA and Army organizations, including a software engineering group.

You're going to have to live in the frozen tundra somewhere if you can't live someplace where you might see a cockroach. Despite what many might think, they're not running amok in the South and are largely controlled via routine pest control visits and a semi-clean house. Jacksonville FL would be a good fit for you as one of the few fastest growing cities in the country. It gets a winter/change of season (minus snow of course) and is pretty average in terms of summer temperatures with the rest of country. Your price range gets you into very desirable neighborhoods with "A" rated schools and employers like Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Embraer, Medtronic, BAE Systems, Kaman, CSX, Georgia Pacific, Blue Cross Blue Shield, AT&T and Honeywell (among many others) maintain headquarters or major facilities in Jacksonville.

A sleeper may be the Melbourne-Palm Bay Area of FL(metro includes Titusville). Harris Communications is a company that is based in that area and may be one to look into. Northrop Grumman, GE, Rockwell Collins, Embraer and DRS Technologies are also in the area, which has a big Aerospace/Defense presence.

Huntsville, Atlanta suburbs, Raleigh.... Potentially Houston or Tampa but the critters get bigger closer to the water.

Baltimore area (in particular in/around BWI) would be a possibility.

Dallas fits all of your requirements. Of course, as the climate changes continue, it may get too hot for your liking.
It's already too hot for my liking.
