From Tucson, Arizona I mostly see plates from the state of Sonora, Mexico.

Yeah I think I saw like one or two Alaska plates during the two decades I lived in Illinois. Here I see them from time to time.

I live in the Charlotte area. I'm out and about a good bit. Of states not bordering us, the top ones by far are FL, MD, PA, OH, and NY.

Washington plates are about 20% of the cars on the road by my estimate. California is fairly common. We get all sorts of plates. There is a Maine plate in my apartment complex.

In Dallas I see Illinois most often of states that do not border TX.

Starting to notice more Ontario plates as well.
In Chicago, I agree with the frequency of New York and California plates. Some days, I will see more than one plate from NY on the street. Texas is another one that I see pretty frequently. Missouri also, which you haven't listed here. I know it borders, but really isn't all that close to Chicago. There are also a lot of Tennessee, but I have had rental cars registered in Tennessee, so I am not sure those are from there.

Yeah, I see tons of TX plates nowadays in IL. The non-bordering states I see the most are PA, OH, MI, MN, TN, FL, NY, GA, VA, and CT. A decent amount of CO and WA plates more recently too.

States I see the least of in IL: KS, KY, NE, ND, SD, UT, AR, OR, AL, NJ, SC, LA, and NM

The rental car thing is also something to be aware of. The cleaner, newer model year cars with out of state plates, there's a good chance those are just rentals.

There are THREE cars on my block with Wisconsin plates in Boston.

Ignoring that anomaly, I'd say it's either New Hampshire or Connecticut.

First thanks to "thetimidbluebars" for bumping this thread. I had almost forgotten that I started it...

Wisconsin...yes, same here. I have seen probably 10 Wisconsin plates in my area in the past week. Perhaps coincidence, perhaps not.

My updated list for Eastern Washington:

1. Texas
2. Nevada
3. California
4. Wisconsin
5. Montana
