Oakland comes to mind. Fort Lauderdale is another example in reference to Miami.

Are there any other big cities that follow that pattern? I suppose southern California or the area around New York city has plenty of cities like that.

When it comes to shooting Oakland is #1 hands down.

"Whining"...

From the comments, it seems like it's common knowledge, now. Everyone here instantly said Ft. Worth... but yeah, NO to Baltimore being in this category.

Based on how large Baltimore is and other cities around its, I don't believe it is underrated as a result to nearby DC or Philadelphia. Fort Worth almost never gets talked about except, one, in threads like this, and, two, as a part of or an extension of (depending on the person speaking) the DFW metro.

Yeah, but people never question where or even what Baltimore is. I'm willing to bet that more people think Baltimore is much further away from D.C. than it is.

Complete opposite of Ft. Worth and Saint Paul...

Baltimore is today and has almost always been the larger city in terms of city limits population. It was the 6th largest city in the country for years and years.
