If anyone made a similar trip, did the rest areas/stations let you park overnight?

I'd rather sleep in my car instead of paying $150 night in some motel.

Looking to make the trip in 3 days, so 12 hours drive per day.

They allow you to park at rest areas in New Mexico. Unless you're in a Hilton or the Balloon Fiesta is in town, most of the hotels are $40-60 a night.

Super 8 and Days Inn are 60-80 per night with an advance reservation. Warning, they can't be cancelled at that rate.

For avoiding tolls, recommend I-80 out of New Jersey, connecting to I-76 to I-71 in Ohio, then I-70 all the way to Utah, then a straight shot to Vegas on I-15. Long friggin' trip. Bring snacks.

Yeah lol, I'm gonna stock up on peanuts and monster to stay alert.

I was gonna have my car shipped, but cheapest I could find was $1245....to hell with that noise. If I drive, it's just under $400 in gas, some tolls, and maybe a few motel overnights = much cheaper!
