I have lived in the NY metro area basically my whole life, and I love the area but HATE the weather. 8 or 9 months out of the year the weather is cold, dark, rainy, windy and just miserable. Summer is nice but only lasts about 3 months, and fall tends to get shorter each year.
I LOVE Cities like Sarasota FL, Naples FL, St Augustine, FL, Phoenix AZ, Houston TX, and L.A, because my field is strong in all those cities, but don't have much family support in those cities (except Sarasota and L.A.).
If I moved just for better weather would that be a dumb decision or do I stay?
For me personally I think moving to another state just because of weather is stupid unless there are other factors at play as well (ie job offer, lower cost of living, etc). There are plenty of people on this forum who have moved down to Florida or Texas later complain about the weather, how jobs don't pay as well, how they don't fit in culturally/politically, etc. I would recommend that you at least visit the place first if you get the chance before deciding to move to another place permanently.

I moved because of weather, left NY for Phoenix as soon as I graduated high school, and have never wanted to go back
And this was 16 years ago...
