When I think of Wilmington this immediately comes to mind. Great memories of visiting my grandparents in Chadds Ford.

and can't forget about Rey's Pizza. Crappy pizza, great spaghetti.

Andddd Latin Cafe. Sorry I keep editing because so much is coming back to me but not all at once lol.

Portland

Voodoo Doughnut

Oregon in general; Dutch Bros Coffee

Minnesota in general; Caribou Coffee

coffee is a big thing in the northern states it seems..

Dallas? Umm the reunion tower restaurant?
Caribou Coffee is no longer localized. They are now in all HyVee supermarkets. We have many in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and I believe Nebraska.

Growing up in the Tampa Bay area, I'd say Hooters (Clearwater, colors are from old Buccaneers logo) and to a lesser extent Outback Steakhouse.

And even though I think they're overrated, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Pittsburgh and Primanti Brothers.

I can think of a number of restaurants connected to a number of cities, but the list below is a good example. One thing to note is that I consider these places iconic for each city; even though many locals may not like them or think they have become to commercialized.

Atlanta: Varsity (great hot dogs)
Buffalo: Anchor Bar (birthplace of chicken wings)
Chicago: Giordano's
Miami: Versailles/Joe's Stone Crabs
New Orleans: Commander's Palace
New York: Katz Deli
Philadelphia: Pat's/Geno's
Pittsburgh: Primanti Bros.
Tampa: Columbia Restaurant

For the SF Bay Area:

- Mel's Diner
- Nation's Hamburgers
- The Cheesesteak Shop

The OP is subject to some interpretation and personal preference, I used iconic to loosely guide my (random order) list.
  • Austin: Franklin Barbeque
  • New Orleans: Cafe du Monde, Commander's Palace
  • Tampa: Bern's Steak House
  • Phoenix: Pizzeria Bianco
  • New Haven CT: Louis' Lunch
  • Miami: Joe's Stone Crab
  • Boston: Union Oyster House
  • NYC: Katz's Deli, Peter Luger, Delmonico's, Tavern on the Green
  • Atlanta: Holeman & Finch (at 10pm)
  • Charleston: Husk
  • Berkeley: Chez Panisse
  • Chicago: Gene & Georgetti, Billy Goat Tavern, Manny's Deli
  • Memphis: Rendevous BBQ
