To put it all out there in a nutshell, I am a male in my early 20's. I have a few college credits, but no stable degree/ career. I work in a coffeeshop, and do stocking part time. I have my own car, but what I'd like to do is sell it, and with the money from that and what I save over the next year, use those funds to relocate. I am an aspiring musician, and generally artistic person. So my only requirements, are a decent downtown art or music scene. And reliable transportation. Don't want to move anywhere like Seattle, L.A, or San Fransico bc of the price range. Looking at more affordable cities like Dallas, Nashville, something close to Vegas, etc. I will probably be working 2 jobs, and scraping by to make it but this is my life, and I am determined. So any suggestions? I am open to any location, regardless of it's direction. Just need something managable, so I can get a fresh start. Somewhere I can get around from place to place, and have a chance to play regular gigs. I don't mind roomshare, or living with roommates if that's what it takes. My genre is alt rock, and pop singer/songwriter. I am looking at a total monthly budget of anywhere from 1500-2000 worst case.

Dallas and Nashville are more affordable than Seattle by a hair. I would seriously consider other cities where you can live a more comfortable existence and feel a bit more like you can get someplace versus a perpetual struggle. I would recommend going the college town route to the standout cities where a lot has talent has been produced and where the reputation continues to draw scouts from labels looking for new talent. Chapel Hill-Carrboro NC is a standout in terms of depth/quality/reputation of music venues and offers a decent cost of living with FREE public transit which is a major plus in my opinion and has a fairly good economy in terms of finding jobs. If out late at night (past 1am) you can Uber or Lyft home which isn't expensive there because Chapel Hill-Carrboro is fairly compact and not spread out like some cities.

The cities with the most reasonable COL and the best public transit would be Philly and Chicago. I think these cities, as well as the ones you mentioned, all have good arts scenes. I have no idea where you exactly would need to be to make it big in the music scene, but my guess would be LA, Nashville, or NYC.
