Seeing as the statistical areas are defined by commuting figures, it is very well possible that they may start shrinking or fracturing in the future. Any of y'all believe that the Bay Area and DC-Baltimore may never actually coalesce into two larger metros? Seems like the popular view on CD is that the change is destined to happen.
Why do people want Baltimore and DC to become one Metro? It is very unlikely that it will happen, but why do people want to see that? I know people from the DC would love for it to happen as it would make their Metro look bigger on paper (Yes, I'm looking at a few posters on C-D)

Baltimore is a stand-alone metro.
Because it makes sense from a marketing standpoint I'd imagine. I can't see why people wouldn't want them to.

People wouldn't want them to because they're separate Metros. Baltimore wouldn't benefit from it, and DC couldn't care less if Baltimore didn't benefit from it.
People from Baltimore take issue with the thought of it, but DC areas residents like the idea....I wonder why.
Fortunately, Baltimore is big enough to stand on its own.

That's not a reason why it wouldn't. Being in a larger market should always help, I can't imagine a scenario where it wouldn't. Baltimore wouldn't benefit from being in a metro of over 7 million people? I can assure you that Baton Rouge would benefit of it joined with Nola.

If anything it seems like disdain for DC.

Which stunts? I can't imagine anything major, they aren't I'm the same state.
By being about to market itself as a metro of 2.2 million people and apply for certain grants with population thresholds. It could help push the commuter rail through which would bring them closer together. Politically the two are polar opposites so this could help bring them together as far as large scale projects that benefit the region. This would also bring in the Northshore (Hammond to Slidell) to more resemble the Bay area.
