My SO and I are trying to decide where to move within the next few years.

Our requirement are living in a state where recreational marijuana is legal.
We would like to live in a more democratic or liberal area.
We'd like to live near mountains. The cold doesn't bother us.
I want seasons.
I don't want to live in a big city, like I wouldn't want to live IN Denver, but am open to living in a smaller suburb outside it. I don't want to live in the woods but need some green, I couldn't do a big city.

We'd obviously like a decent school system, good place for kids to grow up, crime rate low, cost of living not outrageous and the job market is decent for two people without a degree.

That's really about it!

TIA!

Vermont, and Oregon both come to mind.

Mountains? Marijuana? Seasons? Sounds like you want southern CO. Maybe somewhere in the San Luis valley.

If you can afford it, everything you say shouts Boulder, CO.

Eugene and Bend in Oregon as well as Bellingham in Washington state would fit the criteria. Medford/Ashland in Oregon would also fit. These areas are greener than Colorado if that makes a difference.

Nevada? Colorado? Oregon? Maybe Vermont and NM, but these two states haven't legalized recreational marijuana yet.

Portland ME or Springfield MA. Both are liberal with seasons and legal recreational use of MJ. The West coast has some good options but they don't have the seasons you are looking for.

Funny to see Springfield, MA mentioned?! I didn't think anyone knew it existed? I grew up there and thoroughly enjoyed my childhood, but it is a different place now. It also doesn't have mountains. If the OP stays east I would suggest Vermont, possibly New Hampshire. In the west it would be Colorado, Oregon or Washington state.
