I can only speak for myself, but when I lived in South Jersey, I absolutely loved the Amish farmers markets. I'd also imagine that towns on the Shore like Atlantic City and Cape May have good offerings as well.

Just my opinion, money no object:

LA
NYC
SF
New Orleans
Chicago
Houston

Houston is very well rounded. The top 4 lack great Mexican and BBQ.

I see Austin is taking shots from the usual suspects, but Uchi is regarded as one of the best sushi places in the country. And my chef friend in San Antonio readily admits Austin is the mecca in Texas (I vote Houston).

This is just one of many lists of course:

Why would someone get fat from New Orleans food but not New York food?

I guess if you are including the Shore communities, maybe. But it didn't make much sense to say Philadelphia/South and completely ignore Southeastern PA and Northern Delaware.

BBQ. Greasy enchiladas are better in Texas. But I think LA is better all around.

Off the top of my head, in no particular order:

New Orleans
Chicago
NYC
Philly
LA

Chicago and NYC have the most diverse options, but New Orleans has the most unique.

LA lacks Great Mexican?

And these days even NYC has a lot of great Mexican, although there's less variety than in LA.
