Everyone has their preferences, so there is no specific "greatest American city" however, if we are talking about grandness and offerings as a whole, NYC is clearly the choice, arguably the "greatest" city in the world.

Interesting concept but I don't think so... As much as I love my hometown... I wouldn't throw the city I grew up in in this race either.

Chicago is the most all american city way more than NYC but I wish the OP would have left the political statement out of his post. The democratic party in Chicago is full of corruption but heck Chicago since its foundation has been corrupt and that's a fact!
