When I was growing up, my family would always visit the graves of people who never served in the military. It wasn't until I was older that I learned that Memorial Day is in honor of soldiers who died in war. Does your family remember loved ones who have passed away, or just veterans? I'm in Oklahoma, by the way. Perhaps there's variation from region to region.

Are you meaning on Memorial Day specifically?

I visit my grandmothers & grandfathers grave every time I'm in my hometown (usually twice a year). However, I don't walk around "visiting" other grave sites of people I don't know

On Memorial Day specifically, I have visited our fallen heroes graves multiple times, just to pay respects, as they have sacrificed a great deal for us. Memorial Day is to honor the veterans, so there really is no need to visit "normal" gavesites. There's 364 other days to do so, That are not dedicated to a certain cause

On Memorial Day or Memorial Day weekend (the holiday is always on a Monday).

Well it was the one weekend we would travel to my grandparents hometown and visit their friends and then go visit graves - so yes we would go visit them, but more because it was a time when the family came together over the long weekend.
