If you'd like to answer my question, please make three lists, as follows:

Cities that tilt left (liberal)

Cities that tilt right (conservative)

Middle ground cities

Then place any city you choose in the right category

Any size city?

Liberal:
Berkeley, Seattle, Burlington, Ithaca, Both Portlands, San Francisco

Conservative:
Plano, Tulsa, Salt Lake, Irving(TX), Wichita, OKC, Jacksonville

Middle:
St. Paul, San Diego, San Antonio, Omaha, Wilmington, Charlotte, Atlanta, Miami

I'm confused as to what you want me to do next.

How does Jacksonville keep getting labeled as conservative? That's so 20 years ago...

I think, at least as far as metro areas are concerned, the Southern Metro's are textbook middle ground. DFW, Atlanta, and Houston have a real good mix of both liberal and conservative areas.

And for that matter Salt Lake City, which is arguably left of center.

Oklahoma City is probably the only truly conservative city in the country with a metro of over 1 million. Most conservative areas are much smaller or are suburbs of major cities (like Tempe, AZ). OKC is an outlier because of how right-wing it is.

I always use suburbs alongside the city core for my rankings. I also use attitudes towards social issues rather than voting trends specifically.
Miami, Orlando and Detroit are all well left of center...

I think he's going on a metro basis as opposed to specific cities. For example, Dallas is left of center but Fort Worth and the suburbs are not.
