If you had to list the 5-10 most urban and urbane suburbs in America, what would they be?
I'm thinking here of cities that are within the metro area of major US cities that offer the best urban life-style, that tend to be sophisticated and offer the most appeal to people who seek an urban/city-like experience. These are the type of suburbs that can be described as "a city in the suburbs", usually have a strong sense of identity, tend to be walkable with good transpiration, definitely offer downtown sections that offer entertainment, restaurants and with a degree of density and even skyline. The suburbs I have in mind would be the type that one could almost imagine them standing on their own, away from a metro area due to their offerings. They are places not only of diversity, but places that appear to embrace diversity, and are known for their tolerance and progressive nature. They are also places that have a reputation well beyond their metro area, that people may well recognize by their name, even if their state's name was not given.
