The Willamette Valley/Columbia River Gorge and then a lot of the Puget Sound in Washington is pretty damn beautiful.

It really depends on where, in NM. I-40 doesn't have much scenery. I think we need to define "drive through"; are we talking about driving the major highways, or taking the smaller state roads and back roads?

too many to list, but some of the under-rated ones (keep off the interstates you dummies!) include Nebraska and the Dakotas, Utah, New Mexico, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

I guess it depends on what he means by driving through; just blasting through on a major highway, or taking a vacation to meader around and see all the scenic spots.
You need to get out more if you think Highway 1 is the only scenic highway/drive in CA.
