I brought up Baltimore in response to your post. I don't have a problem with you not being a fan of Baltimore. That's your prerogative, I was just stating a few facts about the city.
You stated that Baltimore has one of the best waterfronts on earth.. Not sure how that is a fact, unless you meant "in your opinion".
I am always struck when I go south or north, or even west, that my beloved mid Atlantic region can seem a little bland. I am not trashing it or knocking it, but I am a bit sad that I can't think of a specific architectural flourish or cultural tradition that says "only in the mid Atlantic!" But maybe I am just having an off day.
So I ask you guys-- what is unique to the mid Atlantic region? Can you think of anything?
It's hard to pin down things unique to the mid Atlantic because it's not a real region. It's a mix/amalgamation of regions, and outside of MD, DC, and VA (mostly NoVA), no other states would naturally think of themselves as primarily Mid Atlantic. You don't hear people from NY, NJ, or PA claiming mid Atlantic, they're the Northeast. Similarly, most of Virginia, outside of the NoVA bubble considers themselves Southern. The only states commonly refer to themselves as mid Atlantic are MD, DC, and VA. So what you see in these states I guess would be unique to the region.
According to many standards, mid Atlantic also included NY NJ PA WVa and sometimes Connecticut as well as MD VA DC and DE.
I've never heard CT being referred to as mid Atlantic...ever. That has always been New England/northeast. The others you've listed yes I've heard those ones.

I would probably add Delaware as a state that refers to itself as mid-Atlantic frequently enough.
Are rowhouses mid Atlantic? Interesting. I never thought of that but they probably are in the US. Honestly I associate them with Victorian London more than here but you are probably right.
How did I forget about lacrosse?
About 300, 000 row houses have been built in Philadelphia over the last 150 years or so and they're still being built today renamed to "townhouses". I'm trying to find the source for that total.

The Mid-Atlantic has historically been the part of the Northeast which isn't in New England. That's certainly how I learned it in school. I mean, I realize that over time the upper part of the Atlantic South has become more northern influenced, but to act like the DMV have sole claim to the name is silly.
