I love how opponents of Baltimore City think that state aid should be totally cut off while the counties continue to receive it. The City is no longer Maryland's largest recipient of state aid on a per capita or per jurisdiction basis. The rest of the state also gets road repairs directly from the transportation fund while the city's road allocation is in the form of state aid.

So sure, cutting off state aid would be a serous blow to the City, especially if the savings were divided among the counties. While such a plan is probably politically viable (most people in the state would support it,) it could probably be taken to court as a federal equal protection violation. State aid is allocated using formulas that remain essentially constant from year to year. Removing one jurisdiction from the formulas would appear strange.

This is right-wing claptrap far from reality ... and btw how can state govt be dominated by liberal Dems when the last 2 of 3 governors have been Republicans, including Larry Hogan the current gov? See that's what happens when one goes off on a blind political rant; facts get in the way.

Default Jackson IS the next Detroit.

Jackson, Mississippi. That's the next Detroit.

The only other city over 100,000 people more Black than Jackson is Detroit.

Detroit is 84% Black.

Jackson is 80.1% Black, and it is 18% white, down from 60% white in 1970. not many Latinos, but at least 1.6% of the population.

In addition, we have the worst roads in the country, had one of the most corrupt mayors in America be our past mayor, and our current mayor is a socialist radical who wants to make Jackson "The most radical city on the planet".

Plus we have a state government that recently got it's bonds downgraded by Moody's, so they might not even be able to bail out Jackson if we ever go bankrupt.

Ironic that we'd be so liberal in the only state that has the actual confederate battle flag in it's state flag, and that we have a republican supermajority in both houses of the state legislature and a republican governor, lieutenant governor, and speaker of the house.

I miss the days where racists at least had the dignity to use code words for their racism

It's possible that he means a mix of the best and worst aspects of Detroit. But if so he just fell off the turnip truck about how people will read things. That's the charitable scenario.
