Ignorance...

That's the answer you're looking for.

Orlando has some very conservative suburbs, as does Detroit. In Detroit, while the population tends to be left of center on economic issues, they tend to be right of center on social issues (gay marriage, etc).

In Miami, Cuban-Americans (the dominant group) tend to be right of center on economic issues. For one they're very entrepreneurial, but also they're scared of any association with the word 'communism' due to them fleeing from it. On Social issues, while you will find tolerance on many issues in the Miami area, you won't find Miami at the forefront of championing social and civil rights either.

In other words, it's a very middle of the road kind of place. You won't experience the kind of political orthodoxy you will in San Francisco or Boston, where if you're a Trump supporter or Republican in general, you're some kind of leper. Miami is just not that way.
I'd generally say that Detroit is fairly moderate on social issues, but the city isn't really much different than the suburbs in that regard. The main differences are due to economics and identity politics.

That being said, it's important to note that Detroit has an anti-discrimination ordinance to protect the LGBT population there, while most of the suburbs do not.

I live near Jacksonville, and I'd say it's still pretty conservative.

Smh, you should've known by now that only cities like Seattle, Boston, San Francisco, and Portland can be liberal. Wonder why...

Saying that Dallas city is conservative in any metric is pretty ridiculous. On the contrary, Dallas is actually quite liberal. Dallas does have some very conservative suburbs, but even then DFW's most conservative suburbs are immediately around Fort Worth. The ones around Dallas are pretty moderate on the whole.

Look, there's "Dallas" and there's "DFW". People need to make that clear, as this area does NOT revolve around Dallas.

As I've already said:

Dallas = Liberal
Fort Worth = Mod
the rest of the area = more conservative
