I barely ever see St. Paul discussed on here because of mpls outshining it. Even still St. Paul is a great city in its own right. What cities would you say are St. Paul's peers as far as:
-population
-amenities
-density
-economy
-education
-urban core

Not an obvious pick, but if you look at the criteria Lexington KY is a match.

Neither Pittsburgh or Lexington are in the Midwest, though for Pittsburgh anyway, I can see the similarities. St. Paul has a very eastern vibe.

Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are very close in population, although Pittsburgh is not, technically, in the Midwest. Cincinnati and St. Paul have a similar ratio of white population, but the rest varies. St. Paul is more densely populated...Cincinnati is not dense, at all. The populations of both cities have a similar educational attainment, but crime is higher in Cincinnati.

Certainly not a perfect twin, but there are definite similarities.

By the way it should be noted that St. Paul probably has the highest percentage of Asians in the Midwest, at 15%. Is there any other city (not suburb) in the Midwest that comes close to that number? Even Chicago is only 5%.

The Hmong population settled in the Twin Cities area, as well as in Wisconsin. The Somalian population has also settled pretty much exclusively in the Twin Cities area.

I remember the film "Gran Torino" dealt with a Hmong family in Detroit. Do they have much of a presence up there as well?

College towns like Champaign-Urbana IL, East Lansing MI, Ann Arbor MI and West Lafayette IN are the only cities that are around that Asian percentage and aren't really suburbs(East Lansing may be questionable though). Wausau WI is about 13-14% Asian.

St. Paul seems like one of the most underrated cities in the country.
