What do you think about where power should be centralized? The federal government or the states? I think the more localized things become the better it is for the people involved. One size does not fit all. I think all the cultural and political divisions show that.

The feds have their hands on too many issues. Especially social issues. The USA was founded on the principal that the states were all independent governing jurisdictions united by a common currency and national defense. For instance why is gay civil unions or Abortion a national issue? If Alabama does not want it then let them not have it. If you live in Alabama and don't like, then go to Vermont. That should be one of the great things about the USA.

Also its been almost 60 years since the last state was admitted into the USA, but the populate has multiplied since then. I think new states are needed. California should break up. I like the idea of "Jefferson" which would be a state consisting of Northern Calif (north of Bay area) and southern Oregan. I think Wash DC should be a state (called New Columbia) but parts of Maryland and Northern VA should break off and join New Columbia. New York should split in two using the Tapanzee Bridge as the border.

Europe has tried both. All independent entities, then the EU, and now it seems it's somewhere in between. And it's a mess.

I personally think the Northeast would be a very prosperous nation if they broke away, from Maryland Northward.

The south is pretty much a detriment to the rest of the country, from an economic and social standpoint.
