Would it be theoretically possible to set foot in EVERY state in the lower 48 in the same day? In 48 hours? (construction, airport)

You have from 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM, access to your own jet with privileges to ever airport in the nation, and will have a car on hand at every runway you land on. You can start/end wherever you want.

Assume you had five 2-hour flights, each to a strategic spot in the Northwest, Southwest, Midwest, South, and Northeast that's centrally located and near as many state borders as possible. If you started in LA, five two-hour flights could absolutely get you on the ground in each of the above regions.

That leaves 14 hours for driving, split between the corresponding regions.

Would this feat be remotely possible in a single day? If not - what's the fastest you think it could be done?

It'd be very exhausting, and you'd need your own plane to avoid delays and crowds, but sure I guess it could be done. Not sure why'd you start on the west coast though.

It would make more sense to go from east to west, to get 3 extra hours in the day due to the time zone difference. I don't think it would be logistically possible given the large size of many states, especially in the west. Probably 3-4 days would be feasible.

If you could land really close to a lot of state boundaries...I suspect 24 could be possible and 48 would be easy but that's just a guess.

Looking at a map about 19 points would do it, including a helicopter available at a few spots where maybe a fourth state is just a short hop away from an intersection of three. You'd start at one point so only 18 more would be needed.

I really don't think 24 hours is possible as just flying over all of the states would probably take 20 hours, plus or minus. If you had a F-35 with VTOL (vertical take off and landing) then it might be possible. Otherwise, using regular airports and driving I even had a hard time sticking within 48 hours.

I am sure this could be performed more efficiently. If you add in airport processing and traffic/construction - then 72 hours should be the best you can do.

You'd land on borders where 2,3, or 4 states meet to cut down thr landings.

you could hit all 48 while driving in a little under 5 days, would think that flying would be a snap in 48 hours...probable 24 by drinking a lot of Red Bull.

You could probably do that one in 1/2 hour round trip. Granted, Clarkston is nothing like what most people think WA is like.
