Seaford, Delaware is located inland, about 35 miles from the actual sea (Atlantic Ocean). It's named after a town in the UK that is actually on the sea.
Rocky Mount, NC, is in the eastern part of NC, nowhere close to any mountains. Supposedly there was a rock in the small river there.
Mount Rainier, MD is an older suburb of Wash DC and rather flat.
Saint Marys City, MD has not a single commercial business, other than the colonial museum gift shop. Its the first place that settlers landed in MD, and established a settlement, and also has a college.

that brings up an interesting point, Duwamps (pioneer square/downtown) and New York Alki (Alki point/west seattle) used to compete as to which settlement would become the city center, obviously Duwamps won, ironically Alki means someday in the chinook language, but it seems that Alki Point/west Seattle will never be like New York since they lost that battle to downtown Seattle.
The white settlers were from New York and wanted Alki to be another New York. As you said, they chose the present site of downtown Seattle instead, and the rest is history.
Upper Sandusky, Ohio is a ways south of the better known Sandusky on Lake Erie.
