I was just in Nebraska for four months and have to say there tends to be a very large police presence in Lincoln and Omaha. There also is a culture there that people tend to be extremely close-knit, neighborly and there tends to be lots of neighborhood watches.

Don't even start, if you remember Omaha in 2015 had close to 50 homicides. Not saying it's a bad thing that Omaha has had a low homicide rate compared to other years, but this year is an outlier in Omaha(Which would hopefully continue into other years).
I and multiple people have called you out for the things you've said about Des Moines. You clearly have an agenda to make other cities, specifically Des Moines(based on the posts you've made on the politics forum and 2017 murders thread) ,look bad.

That doesn't explain Des Moines' murder rate, which is at least double Omaha's this year, despite similar or lower black population %.
Why is this a concern for the OP? Do we want a HIGHER murder rate?
Well Kansas City Metro is at least twice the size of Omaha and St. Louis is close to 3x the size of Omaha, despite having a "smaller" central city. St. Louis also has a lot of poverty, is at the intersection of many major interstates making it a big drug distribution market. St. Louis also has a long history of gangsterism and violence. Even Al Capone warned about those St. Louis and Kansas City gangsters being ruthless and these criminal gangbangers during the 20s were Italian and Irish, not black.

From what I was able to read on KCCI, they think the Des Moines murders this year are more of an outlier or are related to drugs coming into the city. I live in a DSM for a year back in 2012, and I thought it was extremely safe. Omaha always had a reputation for more crime.
With that said, if someone were to kill their kids, wife, and themselves, one incident like that a year can pull the murder rate way up in somewhere like Des Moines. The numbers would look bad, but that doesn't mean the underlying reality on the ground would have changed much, especially if the killings are domestic or among people who know each other.

This is so true. Many people listen to the news or read a statistic and digest it and not look into what the story is behind the statistic.
