What are some cities in the USA with good outdoors (water, forests, parks), family lifestyle, low crime, affordable suburbs and technology jobs?
So far I've thought of
Denver
Seattle
I'm sure there are many others ?
Denver & Seattle are a good example, but you'd have to take away the "affordable" part for this cities. As with most "scenic" areas, affordability isn't a strong point.
I think Salt Lake City and Minneapolis are two of the most affordable, nice, safe cities in the tech world. Not to mention very family friendly. Both offer some great outdoor locations and check off the other things you listed as well.
Austin, TX (but except for a few lakes and rivers not much in the water department).
Portland, OR, (rivers and forests).
But Seattle is perhaps your leader here, with the exception of "affordable".
I guess there is no perfect tech place...
Portland could be quite nice.
Looking into Raleigh (not sure if scenic though), Salt Lake City and Phoenix too. I wonder what others are good places people on this forum have lived in.

Is Salt Lake City or Phoenix (desert scenery) a good option for families? Both are tech hubs it seems.
I mentioned Salt Lake City in my post above this. It's a very decent place overall and great for families as well. Minneapolis is another that I strongly recommend, beautiful city

Cool Minneapolis sounds perfect in every way to me! Just have to convince the wife on the winter prospect !

Visit Minneapolis - in January - before uprooting your family and moving there. Winters in the Upper Midwest are terrible. It's not uncommon for the temperature to stay below freezing for days or even weeks at a time. It's miserable. It makes winter in Denver seem downright balmy.
Boise is another possibility, but it seems like that area is getting increasingly hit by heat waves (100-105+ degrees).
