1) California - Got it all minus cost of living
2) Hawaii - Tropical paradise
3) Colorado - Mix of everything
4) New York - If I had to pick a northern state because of NYC
5) North Carolina - pretty much everything I want geographically and still in the South
Just missed: Washington, Oregon, Georgia, Tennessee, Pretty much any one of the New England states
If I had to choose 1 state to live my whole life, none of these would be my choice (I would choose a state with a good mix of everything, but not necessarily the best of anything, like North Carolina). But if I can travel throughout the year between 5 states, give me:
1. Hawaii
2. Maine
3. California
4. Colorado
5. New York
No particular order of the ones I've been to:
Minnesota
South Dakota
Maine
Wisconsin
Then #5... maybe New Hampshire or Colorado.
Honorable mention of places yet to see: Alaska, Montana.
