During the four to five months per year when it's tolerable enough weather-wise to visit them.

If you enjoy water activities dont think North Carolina can compare. We have oceans, lakes, springs, and rivers that you can enjoy year round. If you want mountains or hills, North Carolina is your place. 4 seasons is overrated.

Our lakes and rivers in FL are often not usable thanks to bacterial issues from long periods of heat as well as chemical runoff from pesticides which result in frequent fish kills. NC has some of the freshest bodies of water in the country such as Lake Lure, Lake James, Fontana Lake and Lake Gaston not to mention umpteen major rivers along with hundreds of freshwater streams. And the four season climate provides nine months out of twelve to actually enjoy them all, versus four or five.

How many of those lakes are real (not man made)? Lake Lure is not. Reading about Lake James, same thing.

So what? They are beautiful. What would you prefer, something tepid and algae-ridden like Lakes Okeechobee, George, Apopka or Kissimmee? No, thank you.

Who cares since they're not only in beautiful settings, but allow for all kinds of activities (boating/fishing) and the water is actually clean.
