Mainstream America has traditionally meant moderate, average America, with hard-working people, at neither political extreme. "Mainstream America" represents the largest common tread among people, what identifies and unifies us the most, and really leaves out the divisiveness of politics that eats away at unity, like corrosion.

As far as what state, I'll leave that to others

Illinois, Colorado, and New York both are both the most representative in terms of demographics overall.

When I think of the state most represents "Mainstream America", Ohio always comes to mind. A mix of large cities, farms, rivers, parks, the lakefront, and a diverse population.

As a native, I would only take exception with the demographics of CO. We are more non-hispanic White, less Black and more Latino than the US Average.
