I've been curious on how cities and towns have been densifying and removing/hiding ugly surface parking that scarred them decades ago. Seems most US city centers from Houston to Pine Bluff have been scarred by seas of parking or empty lots. Even a city like Denver that people love to call transit-happy is floating in seas of parking.

I like reading about new projects and I'm just curious on what cool projects have been built lately in your city, or any city you admire, that's taken away chunks of ugly parking, empty lots, and rusted warehouses and replaced them with denser residences, towers, greenspace, event space, etc.

I know many cities have proposals, but those often times fall flat, so I'm a little more curious on what's already been built lately, or projects that are definitely going to happen in the near future.

I like going on Google streetview and seeing how cities have transformed in the last decade. Feel free to share cool projects, examples, streetviews, etc!

While building hasn't really happened yet, a transformation has. (Small projects and renovations have happened. Our first new skyscraper breaks ground in December.)

Detroit, 2008- One lonely pedestrian (even if you circle all the way around)

Detroit, 2016- (I seriously wonder what was going on this day- this is a VERY light crowd. Food trucks are 11-2, so either it was like 11:05 when they came by or something. Often the crowd is shoulder to shoulder and the lines at the trucks are 20-30 people deep each)
