Will DFW surpass Chicagoland as the third largest metro? (2015, credit)

Will DFW become the third largest metro by 2020? Also talk about where would you rather live; I want to compare advantages and disadvantages of both areas.
Chicago, but the way the economy is going and the way all of Texas is shaped out those projections may very well change.
Everyone from New York and CA are flooding into cities like Atlanta, Austin, and Houston...as well as Dallas.
I think we will pass them in 2030 or 2040 in all honesty.
All of Texas' cities are being uber flooded ('uber' is the young way of saying 'super' or 'really').

To be honest, no.
Chicago is the 8th biggest gainer according to census bureau this year. While Dallas is gaining more people, Chicago continues growing rapidly as well, and it's just SO much bigger.
I think that Chicago will maintain it's #3 position.
I doubt that DFW will surpass Chicago. The trends are going towards urban/downtown styles of living, of which Chicago has a whole lot more of. I realize that's not everything involved with growth trends. Dallas and Fort Worth both have nifty little downtowns, surrounded by gargantuan amounts of suburban life.
While it has it's own suburban sprawl, Chicago could almost be considered a mid-western alternative to New York, while Dallas... not so much to offer there. Chicago is a lot stronger than some people want to give it credit for.
With all these "will 'whoever in Texas' pass Chicago" threads, it sounds like Texans really want to be something special. Don't worry, Texans, you already are in your own heart.
It's really odd that Dallas has so much population growth, especially when you read these forums, where all these people MUST HAVE oceans, mountains, whatever.... Dallas is nowhere near any of that. That's not a drawback for me, personally, but a lot of people seem to have those "needs".

Please don't compare NYC to Chicago. They are completely different. Chicago is the best US Cosmopolitan city while NYC is USA's best International City. They have totally diff. vibes.
I love Dallas. Again not comparable to NYC or Chicago. But Dallas is not for everyone.
Dallas may pass the Bay area and Boston sometime in the next decade and than the Washington-Baltimore area in the decade after if the trends continue but that's it. I think for sure Dallas will pass the Bay sometime around 2015. But it's still fun to talk about seeing as how it's all speculation.. Nobody in here actually knows.
DFW has a ways to go and I don't think it will pass Chicago's metro by 2020, but at the rate Dallas is growing it could definitely give Chicago a run. The Sunbelt is taking up those people who are tired of paying in general. People probably need money more than they NEED mountains, oceans or any of those other land features...icing on the cake. I think it's great that people are realizing that.
