I've been almost everywhere as far as big cities are concerned so strictly by the letter of the question at hand, my top choices are as follows...leans mostly toward the 300k-1M metros since I've been to most of them 1M+
1) San Diego - I have been to the metro but never in the city, which will change next week!!
2) Phoenix - I think I probably visited when I was 3 or 4 but since I have no memory it doesn't count. Have been reading a lot of positive things lately
3) Columbus - The one booming OH metro. I like Cleveland and Cincy so let's see what this one's like (pretty different I'm sure)
4) SLC - Seems like a really interesting smaller metro. High QOL, maybe lacking only in nightlife though I'm sure given its size it would be ok for me.
5) Des Moines - Positive rep for young professionals and improving urbanity
6) Grand Rapids - Want to attend Artprize
7) Omaha
8) Boise
9) Chattanooga
10) Asheville
11) VA Beach - I'm not that interested but it is one of the few million+ metros so I should check it out eventually
12) OKC - Ditto
13) Tulsa - Seems to be more historic and quirky than OKC but don't know for sure
14) Anchorage - Why not?
15) Fayetteville, AR - Walmart. And several other major companies...but really, what's the world of Walmart like?
16) Greenville, SC - Less sexy but sorta booming southern metro with a DT that has gotten rave reviews
17) Duluth, MN
18) Fort Wayne, IN
Of course if we add in small towns and parks etc then the list would be far different. Even though I am a city guy.
I would love to to go to BOSTON!!!
I want to go there so bad.
Boston and Providence are pretty much at the top of my bucket list. I did actually go to Boston when I was 2, though, but have no recollection of it. San Francisco, San Diego, Honolulu, San Antonio, Annapolis, etc. would be worth visiting as well.
Seattle and Portland. I been to every part of the US but the Pac Northwest. Crazy thing ever time I go west I always go to LA and SF but never the Pac Northwest.
I've had a couple layover flights in Anchorage because I always buy cheap airline tickets from Priceline where you get the strangest layover locations, but I've never left the airport, though I've always wanted to. I want to go salmon fishing in Alaska. I've driven through every state except Alaska, Delaware, North Dakota, & Vermont, but Alaska is the only place I'd like to cross off that list.
