There was an amusement park with roller coasters I believe in the area that is now St Clair Shores. This old amusement park closed in the 1950s.

I'm assuming you mean MAJOR theme parks and MAJOR zoos (usually meaning it attracts over 1 million visitors annually)? Or do you mean theme/amusement parks and zoos of any kind? Just wondering if there was a limit on size.

Both, you could do two separate lists for major parks and any parks at all.

Oh, ok. I know for Charlotte, it has a major theme park and water park (Carowinds). But there's also a moderately sized, safari-type drive through zoo called Lazy 5 Ranch just north of the city. We took our kids there when they were young and it was an absolute blast. Can't wait to take our grandkid.

Indianapolis itself has no amusement park other than the Indianapolis Zoo having four rides (a carousel, kids coaster, miniature railroad, and skylift), Indianapolis is an hour and a half from Indiana Beach and almost three hours from Holiday World near the bottom of the state. Indianapolis is actually closer to both Kentucky Kingdom and Kings Island (both two hours) than it is to Holiday World.

With New Orleans no longer having Six Flags, the only place in the city with rides year-round is the kid oriented "Carousel Gardens Amusement Park". The Blue Bayou Dixie Landin' near Baton Rouge is under an hour and a half away from New Orleans with four thrilling roller coasters.

Vermont, New Hampshire, and Wyoming are the only three states with no zoos at all.

That post said Charlotte didn't have a zoo, North Carolina has one big zoo near the center point of the state. A previous poster enjoys a safari park just north of Charlotte called "Lazy 5 Ranch".

Some might be surprised the Des Moines area has a good amusement park, Adventureland Park in Altoona, which has lots of great rides and a loop roller coaster. We also have Blank Park Zoo, which is not real big like the Omaha zoo but still pretty nice for a smaller zoo. We also have the Des Moines Botanical Center, which is a domed botanical garden, they have a corpse flower plant which got a lot of attention last fall when it went into bloom.

But really, you should come here for our corn mazes. We have the Pumpkin patch corn maze in Mitchellville, and beautiful haunted corn maze just south of Des Moines in Carlisle, called North River Adventures. For safety, outlanders must exit the park before sunset.

Kansas City has Worlds Of Fun, which I thought was a great park when I was a kid, but I never see any advertisements for it anymore on our local stations. I think Adventureland has improved enough over the years to catch up with the offerings at Worlds of Fun, which used to be the place to go back in the day. Hope it's still doing well, lots of good memories riding The Orient Express. Omaha does not have an amusement park, but it has a great zoo.
