I'd hear stories from my father who is from Ohio. He'd tell about his times in the Army in the South in the 1960s-1970s. He mentioned the "good old boys" who didn't like Yankees, especially small-town Southern police officers.

I grew up in Louisiana, and I live in Texas now. I consider myself a Southerner because I spent most of my life in the South. I haven't noticed any prejudice from Southerners to Yankees during all those times I lived here.

Is the hatred still there, but not as bad as it was then?

I'm not from a small town but DFW attracts a lot of transplants from small towns of Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. They never seem to have anything against Yankees (though they and I do NOT like being called Yankees-it would be like calling all Europeans British or something).

No. People down south don't dislike northerners in general, they dislike when northerners move down south and basically turn their area blue/purple, and raise taxes, which is the simple way of putting it.

Because apparently southerners can't and don't vote blue or split, and apparently southerners are opposed to all tax raises to fund services, while northerners can't be in support of any tax decreases. And apparently everyone who comes from the north is blue and wants to bring their politics.

Gotta love that simplistic way of thinking.

It's just that northerners come down here, try to tell us how to run the show and go on about how things aren't like up north. We must be doing something right because they keep moving down here.

I can't answer for Southerners - I can only address the vice versa part of your question. Personally, I love Southerners. I can understand why they may stop short of reciprocating such a sentiment, at times, which I why I am very much opposed to anything anti-Southern.

It’s a generalization, but Southerners and Northeners don’t hate one another, but they do hate each other’s politics.

I don't think "hate"is the right word. More like goo natured ribbing ala College / high school football rivalries.

Many times, you only joke and tease with people you ACTUALLY like! ;0)
