With an American uni degree and experience working in an American-based company in Europe, I was thinking why not apply for a green card. Anyway, if I win, I'd like a place where locals are friendly and gregarious, a relatively safe one. I have a Business degree and another in Communications. I know, way too liberal degrees, but maybe I can teach something like Political History? I like working with people.
I need lots of greenery in the suburbs at least. Additionally, the place has to be closer to the East Coast as it means closer to Europe and saves in flights I think. So far I liked researching Cincinnati, OH; Cleveland, OH and Milwaukee, WI. They look very nice at least on Google Street View. Lots of trees there, too like my home city of Sofia, Bulgaria (and unlike most European capitals whose downtowns are treeless)
Other options are St. Louis and Philadelphia, but maybe Philly's too large for me and too liberal? I have moderate views - I don't care what others do and how they live their lives but I don't want to live in a place where some nutty SJW will scold me for man-spreading in an almost empty bus lol. Oh and at home while I don't mind cleaning I can't cook to save my life. :P But I am an Eastern European, so a very conservative place where I'll be "the Other" wouldn't be nice. Eventually I would get a car of course and I love cars. I prefer mid to smallish cities (up to about 2 million pop. maybe).
Milwaukee has a large contingent of eastern Europeans. I have lived there before, and had several European visitors. All thought Milwaukee looked like a European city. Milwaukee is pretty much continuous development all the way to Chicago, so there's that advantage. Lots of green in the city, and a beautiful lakefront, to top it off.
^Thanks, but what makes you think of Buffalo (I assume the one in NY)? I did some Google Street view and there are not so many trees really.
It's moderate politically, ethnically diverse, has a lower cost of living, fits the population size, offers plenty to do and does in fact have plenty of tress/greenery.
My company has offices in Columbus, OH and Milwaukee btw.
That's a useful nugget of information. In that case to ease the transition a transfer would seem to be a good idea. Milwaukee would probably be the better option for you, plus it's convenient to Chicago for weekend trips which could be a plus.
Tampa-Saint Pete is on the Gulf of Mexico! Well, that's all I have, in the way of accolades.
If you consider Cincy, keep in mind that it has a near-ghetto. I managed to drive through it on a dark night, accidentally.
I gotta say, it was spooky, and I don't spook too easily.
