I am in the process of deciding where to retire and am unsure which location is best for me. I was born in NC, spent most of my life in Charleston SC and the last 10 years in Annapolis. I have ruled out DC and NYC due to traffic and COL and Wilmington NC for other reasons. I love Charleston but don’t want to move there at this point. I like the water but would consider the mountains. I like a community feel. I plan on renting a 1-2 BR condo or townhome in the $1800-$2500 range and am not seeking employment .
My Focus
- Foremost a community that is singles friendly- don’t know how to determine this. Singles who have made a move may have an opinion on whether larger or smaller cities would be better.
- I am interested in staying in the eastern part of the US.
- lower to average COL and taxes
- prefer near water but the mountains are a possibility
- seasonal change is okay

I am researching Florida, NC, Tennessee, SC , Virginia, Georgia but further north is possible

Has any single found a location they love ?

Thanks!

You might check out Hilton Head, SC. It has a community feel, a significant population of older singles (over half are above 50 and about a third are single), has a slight seasonal change, a lower cost of living/tax load and of course easy water access.

I'd post these on the individual state's forums. You might get more response.

Default Move

Thanks,

I was actually thinking to check HH. I loved it when I was married but everything is different when you are single .

I will post on state specific sites.

Thanks !
