Is there such a thing as inexpensive housing anywhere anymore? This post is pretty vague. Do you have other wants in a city?

Yeah I want a city that has a lot of things going on, somewhere that is easy to meet new people, has good public transportation, and has decent weather I don't mind snow but if I could get away from it it would make me a little happy.

Probably not because the FED artificially inflates housing costs to the point where we are back in a big housing bubble which lowers the standard of living for much of the population. That being said there is still a wide variation in housing costs. Generally the OP will want to stay away from large coastal cities.

Louisville, KY metro area. Plenty to do, transit, low housing costs, mild weather, and centrally located to most cities in the eastern US.

Check out Charlotte NC. It's a friendly, vibrant city that's growing with lots of young professionals but is still quite affordable with desirable one bedroom apartments renting for around $700-$750 a month, has four distinct seasons with mild winters and the advantage of a light rail system, streetcars and plenty of buses also.

I always said If you are lucky enough to be in Maine, you are lucky enough I can't wait until I am in a position to go back.

What places outside of Maine have you been to?

What part of Maine are you in now? I am a downeast Maine person so the job market is not so good, I would have loved to stayed even if the only job I could get was stocking shelves at the IGA. Moving away can bring a culture shock, people are not as nice, drivers are not as courteous, and there will be more crime, noise and litter.
