The FCC has ended a rule that no longer requires TV and Radio Stations to have a local presents in that Local City or Town. What affect on that Local City or Town will that have if any? I don't know about many on C-D but this could be devastating to some local markets around the US as far as Media Coverage, especially the smaller ones. This really has me watching closely to see where this is headed. Giving an extreme case, that means lets say a Albany, NY TV station would be broadcasted or be located in NYC even though it's an Albany, NY. TV Station.. Interesting to say the least . I just see this as a bad ideal for the mere fact who can report the local news like that local Cities casters can..
It essentially clears the way for large conglomerates like Sinclair to do away with local broadcasting completely. It's a terrible move that's on-par with the stupidity of the Telecom Reform act of '96.

Could also give the rise to new local startups that have a better grasp on what goes on locally. If they say people aren't listening to the radio or watching TV then catering to people online would be easier.
A lot of media isnt owned by locally based parents anyways. Not sure how that would work though, you'd have to have some local presence, unless someone is working from home or you get a robot or something to film and report what goes on in the streets.
There may be some misunderstanding about this. This is an elimination of a "studio" rule. This doesn't mean local stations can ignore their "COL", (city of license). This has not changed. All radio stations still must provide a public file which includes community involvement to their COL. All this does is allow companies to broadcast from a central studio that may not exist in the COL. The idea of this is simply that technology has made the in-town studio virtually unnecessary, and saving broadcasting companies land costs.
