I know Portland has an up-and-coming fashion scene and several project runway winners were from there. They have an Art Institute of Portland and everyone graduating with a BFA fashion design get jobs at like Nike, Columbia Sportswear, Adidas, Kroger and a few smaller businesses since Portland has so many vintage boutiques and thrift stores. There is also a small fashion trade school and several places to take sewing classes. There is the Broadway Rose Theater and a couple other theater companies that take interns for costume design as well. All throughout the year, Portland has fashion shows, but most of them are small and not well-known since they are more of an organic small town city and cater to unique vintage and activewear designers rather than the whole LA, NY fancy stuff.

I'm wondering if Minneapolis has less or more of a fashion scene than Portland. Are there any fashion schools offering a Bachelors there or a certificate? And then where are the student placed in internships? Do they have a lot of retail corporations besides Target and do they have a lot of independent boutiques who need designers? Are there lots of fashion shows there? I hear Minneapolis has the most theaters besides NY but does that mean musical/straight play/ballet theater or just more movie theaters? Also is there a major difference in their sense of fashion compared to Portland and other places?

Portland fashion scene? OK, I will buy in, but I don't get it. It is not evident to this casual visitor. But perhaps that is the point...the latest fashion "isn't fashion", but something terribly different. (and I mean the word "terribly"). Sorry, please move on...
