This is literally about the word or term “Ope”. As in “Ope, didn’t mean to run into you”, or “Ope, sorry about that”.

I’ve been on the West Coast for about 2 years now, and not once have I heard someone (other than myself) use this word/term. I know every area/region has their own lingo/word (in Northern California its “Hella”). Whenever I go home to visit (Indiana & Kentucky) I hear it all the time, and other areas in the Midwest like Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, etc... So is this a Midwest thing? Has anyone ever used or heard this word/term?

This is more for curiosity sake, figured it might be fun/interesting to get other takes on this.

I don't think I've ever heard it, but I may have said it a time or two.

I've spent 99% of my life in the west.

I've lived in Memphis, Pittsburgh, and various places in the PNW and I've never heard that word used before.

I never realized I say this word, but after reading this thread, I realize I do! I grew up in NYS (upstate and downstate). So somewhere in there I guess I learned it lol.

It’s one of those things you never think about or realize, until someone directly says something about it!
