what constitutes as near? and are we only listing major cities, or are we going to be listing every little settlement?

I don’t know the islands well at all, but I’d guess that there’s probably a town somewhere near an active or potentially active volcano in Hawaii.

I believe all the active volcanos in Hawaii are on the Big Island, so the main city close by is Hilo (pop. 42k or so).

Albuquerque is near the center of the Rio-Grande rift, which is a volcanic region that produces cinder cone eruptions every few thousand years in New Mexico and Arizona.

Vulcan

The Albuquerque volcanic field has several cinder cones just outside the city limits inside the Petroglyph National Monument.
